Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, has witnessed rapid growth of the app economy. Users in the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore spend 5 hours a day on average on apps. For Vietnam, the figure is four hours a day.
It is the rapid increase in demand which has prompted the increase in the number of downloads of apps in many countries, including Vietnam.
According to Data.ai, Vietnam is the second largest country in Southeast Asia in terms of downloads, with 3.5 billion app downloads last year.
While users all over the globe now have to tighten their belly, about 6,600 apps are downloaded by Vietnamese every minute. The country spends $900, or VND21 million each minute, on this type of service.
The tendency has helped promote the strong growth of apps related to mobile banking, e-wallet and digital payment.
The habit of using apps also helps create opportunities for the development of digital technology firms. In addition, the process of digital transformation among all people will benefit from this.
Meanwhile, according to e-Conomy, a report released by Google, Temasek and Bain & Company, since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam has added 8 million more digital users. It predicted that by 2025, Vietnam’s internet economy would value $57 billion, with the compound annual growth rate of 29 percent.
According to Google, of every 25 games downloaded, there is one game made in Vietnam and the revenue from the ads of Vietnamese game studios is among the world highest.
App Annie report 2021 said that of the top 10 game distributors with the highest numbers of downloads from Google and App Store in Southeast Asia, five belonged to Vietnam.
