The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) under the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) said the agency in May met the five largest TV manufacturers in Vietnam which hold 94 percent of domestic market share.
A report showed that Vietnamese consumers tend to choose TVs with large screens, especially 55 inches or larger. Statista.com estimated that the Vietnamese TV market had revenue of $1.23 billion in 2022.
With 2.7 million TVs sold in Vietnam, the TV average price was VND10.5 million. As the domestic market is very competitive thanks to many different brands, the designs and features of products have improved.
ABEI reported that 86 percent of households use smart TVs.
To be sold in the market, smart TVs need to satisfy the requirements on professional management set by MIC and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).
TVs must be able to receive digital terrestrial television signals using DVB-T2 technology in accordance with a circular that stipulates the time of integrating the function of receiving digital terrestrial television signals for television sets manufactured and imported for use in Vietnam.
A survey conducted by UNICEF (the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) in 2020-2021 in Vietnam found that the number of households using smart TVs with internet connection accounted for 86 percent. In five large cities, about 60 percent of households have two or more TV sets.
The pre-installation of the VTVGo app on smart TVs will play a very important role. This is an important political task that will determine the success and formation of the national digital television foundation.
