Social media platforms have to authenticate users via phone numbers: Decree

Cross-border and domestic social media platforms shall be required to authenticate users' accounts via mobile phone subscribers in Viet Nam.

The authentication process shall have to be done within 90 days from December 25, 2024, according to the Government's Decree No. 147/2024/ND-CP on managing, providing and using internet services.

In case a user does not have a mobile phone number in Viet Nam, personal identification number shall be used to authenticate his/her account.

If a user livestreams for commercial purposes, his/her account must be authenticated via personal identification number.

Only authenticated accounts shall be allowed to post and share information on social media platforms.

For children aged below 16 using social media platforms, their parents or supervisors shall use their personal information to register for accounts and have to supervise and manage the contents posted or shared by children./.
