More than 1 million people in HCM City have registered for a “welfare bag” through an online registration form, said Le Quang Tu Do, Deputy Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information, Ministry of Information and Communications.
Mr. Le Quang Tu Do said the "People ask - The city answers" livestreams have attracted great public attention because all the questions raised by the people were answered directly by HCM City authorities. The livestream on August 27 lured more than 400,000 viewers.
The 1 million people registering for “welfare bags” online was a record number.
HCM City is implementing social security policies to help people have peace of mind in fighting against the epidemic. The subjects of these policies include employees who are temporarily suspended from work without being paid, those who lost their jobs but are not eligible for unemployment benefits; freelance workers who lost their jobs, and business households that had to stop operating; and traders at traditional (wet) markets.
The welfare bag is part of a bigger support package for people in difficulty in HCM City. It includes essential necessities such as rice, vegetables, sugar, soy sauce, seasoning powder, eggs, and more.
To receive the bag, HCM City residents register directly with the local government, or online via the Google Form.
The link to the application form is regularly updated under the "People ask - The city answers" livestream every day. People just need to access, fill in the information, choose a welfare package, mark the right subject, and then press the "Send" button.
