New technologies must work for the people, says PM Phuc at G20 Summit

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has welcomed the G20 countries’ approach on the development of human-centered artificial intelligence (AI), while emphasizing that the creation of new technologies must be for the people and maintain the good human and moral values.

 The Vietnamese leader made the remarks during a G20 Summit session on innovation in Osaka, Japan on the afternoon of June 28.

He stated that Viet Nam identifies the digital economy as one of the important drivers for economic growth and is going to issue a national strategy on digital transformation later this year.
 
PM Phuc applauded Japanese PM Shinzo Abe’s initiative on free data circulation in parallel with ensuring reliability, asking for a global framework of laws and principles on data circulation and administration.
 
Viet Nam and ASEAN member states are willing to cooperate with G20 countries to encourage innovation and maximize the benefits of the digital economy, on the basis of respecting international and domestic laws, he affirmed.
 
The PM proposed an initiative on promoting the establishment of a global network connecting innovation centers, including AI research and development centers, in order to promote the sharing of knowledge and new technologies, and support developing nations to take advantage of opportunities from innovation and AI, thus ensuring that no one is left behind and promoting peace and sustainable development in the digital age.
 
Earlier, PM Phuc and other leaders discussed the reality and outlook of global economy, trade and investment. They stated that the world economy is basically stable but grows slowly with many risks, affirming their continuous use and coordination of policy tools to facilitate sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth, consolidate trust, and prevent risks and uncertainties.
 
On the same day, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc had bilateral meetings with the Party General Secretary and President of China, the US and Chilean Presidents, the Prime Ministers of India and Canada, the President of the European Commission, and the Director-General of the World Health Organization, in order to discuss measures to further deepen Viet Nam’s relations with partners. Later in the evening, the Vietnamese Prime Minister joined other leaders to attend the official banquet of the G20 Summit, hosted by Japanese PM Shinzo Abe.
 
The G20 Summit will continue tomorrow (June 29) with important discussion sessions on the topics of sustainable development, employment, women, health, the environment, energy and climate change, among others.
