Book lovers: Readers gather at the previous International Book Fair
The annual fair will create a chance to promote reading culture, expand international co-operation and introduce Vietnamese publications, said Chu Văn Hoà, director of the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution, host of the fair.
“Taking place at an open-air venue, the five-day event promises to attract thousands of readers of different ages,” he said.
“The international book fair has gained prestige and fame so that this year, we will have the participation of more foreign agencies than the previous event,” he added.
World famous media and publishing houses have registered to take part, including Wedge & Holdings, Vista P.S, Tuttle Mori of Thailand, John Wiley & Sons, Oxford Press, Macmillan, HarperCollins and more.
The book fair will expose readers to 40,000 titles in Vietnamse and 7,500 titles in foreign languages. These range from literature, science, education to children’s books. All books will be offered for promotional prices and discounts.
The event will also include an exhibition displaying old documents and objects related to the development of book publishing and distribution in Việt Nam through different historical periods. The books on display including awarded books, e-books, books on sea and islands and national sovereignty, books on ASEAN community and books printed with new materials and technology.
The book fair’s agenda features other activities, including book launches, talks with Vietnamese and foreign authors, discussions on publishing works, and a signing ceremony on copyright exchanges between domestic and foreign partners.
Key programmes include a seminar sharing experience in copyright exchange, organised by Nhã Nam Company and Tuttle Mori Thailand, a workshop instructing children to make board books and baby fabric books sponsored by Đinh Tị Company, and a seminar on developinh children’s reading habits hosted by Quảng Văn Company.
