Minister Truong Minh Tuan receives Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand

On November, 18, in Hanoi, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan had a meeting with Mr. Manopchai Vongphakdi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand in Vietnam.


At the meeting, the minister said, the two countries had achieved fruitful results in various fields of cooperation. Concerning the cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand in the field of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Thailand, the National Commission on Telecommunications and Television of Thailand had met, exchanged and shared experiences on the management of post, radio frequency, telecommunication and IT.

Specifically, in the field of post, Vietnam Post and Thailand Post cooperated to issue the common stamp set on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Vietnam – Thailand relation. Minister Truong Minh Tuan also congratulated Thailand was elected as member of Postal Operation Council (UPU) and thanked Thailand for supporting Vietnam to become a member of the Executive Council of the UPU.
Minister Truong Minh Tuan also mentioned some bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand in the field of journalism and information security.
Ambassador of Thailand Manopchai Vongphakdi assessed the bilateral relations between Vietnam – Thailand was close neighbors because both were members of ASEAN. Information about Vietnam regularly appear on the mass media to help the people of Thailand understand more about the country and people of Vietnam.
He informed Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Thailand was in charge of a new task, IT. The Thailand’s government awared that the Internet was an important condition for promoting economic and social development. Recently, the Thai government has issued a policy on Internet coverage throughout the country, covering more than 5,000 villages. With the Internet, farmers and local businesses in Thailand have more opportunities to sell their products.

The Ambassador also expressed his willingness to serve as a bridge for cooperation between enterprises of the two countries in the fields of post, telecommunications and IT.
Minister Truong Minh Tuan congratulated the Ambassador Manopchai Vongphakdi for his new duty in Vietnam and expressed his wish Ambassador would further promote cooperation Vietnam - Thailand, especially in the field of Information and Communications.
