At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the development of 5G technology of Vietnam and the United States.
Mr. Ajit Pai shared about the "5G Fast Plan" (the United States holds a pioneer in 5G technology), with special attention paid to network security.
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung also briefed about Vietnam's 5G development plan, under which Vietnam will commercialize 5G by 2020, and has piloted 5G deployment at a number of cities in 2019. At the same time, Vietnam is also very interested in producing 5G equipment and phones. Vietnam is also the most active country in ASEAN on 5G development with the organization of a number of conferences and seminars in Vietnam with the participation of all ASEAN member countries. The Minister proposed that the United States shared the criteria for evaluating 5G equipment.
Regarding cybersecurity, the Minister of Information and Communications stated that cybersecurity is an issue for all countries in the world and countries need to cooperate, share experiences and learn from each other to work together. Regarding policies and legal regulations in the field of cybersecurity, Vietnam always listens to the opinions of experts and businesses, especially international technology enterprises, as well as experiences of other countries to balance the relationship between development and network security.
Chairman of the US Communications Commission said he appreciated Vietnam's pioneering role in 5G development in the ASEAN region as well as Vietnam's active role in protection policy concerning 5G devices is stated in the "Make in Vietnam" Strategy.
Mr. Ajit Pai affirmed that the United States is ready to support Vietnam in developing 5G through activities such as: sharing network security standards, supporting the evaluation of equipment, training experts, etc.
