Law on Network Information Safety promulgated

The Office of the State President on December 18 convened a press conference to promulgate nine laws and two resolutions which were adopted at the 10th session of the 13th National Assembly.


Accordingly, the nine laws included the Law on Network Information Safety, the Law on Supervisory Activity of the National Assembly and People’s Councils, the Law on Accounting, the Law on Hydrometeorology, the Law on Fees and Charges, the Law on Referendum, the Law on Professional Soldiers, National Defence Workers, and the Viet Nam Customs Law. 

The two resolutions were the National Assembly working regulation resolution and the Resolution on ratification of the Protocol Amending the Marrakesh Agreement establishing the World Trade Organization.
The Law  on Network Information Safety includes 8 chapters and 54 articles, defining regulations for information security activities, including ensuring the safety of online information; protecting personal information online; civil cipher; standards and technical regulations on information safety; business operations in the field of information security; human resource development; State management on information security; and the rights and obligations of organisations and individuals engaged in the field.
The Law  on Network Information Safety aimes at completing a stable legal basis for information security towards uniformly adopting legislation in practical implementation, developing the information security sector to meet the requirements of socio-economic development, improving quality of life for the people and ensuring national defence and security. The law also contributes to protecting the rights and legitimate interests of organisations and individuals engaged in information security, stepping up surveillance and prevention of risks on information safety, and ensuring effective enforcement of State management in the field.
The Law on Network Information Safety will take effect on July, 1st , 2016.
