Speaking at the Launching Ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Bui Hoang Phuong, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Competition, said that the UPU International Letter Writing Competition - an useful and meaningful activity that has accompanied students for many years because it not only helps them develop their writing skills; enriching the sophistication of thinking, but also helping to connect friendship with friends around the world, having more opportunities to understand more about the role of the Post in social life.
This Competition also has great significance and profound impact on students, on the young generation when they put their own thoughts on international issues of concern, current issues of the United Nations, speaking up for the young generation and proposing solutions to solve them according to their perspective.
Every year, the Universal Postal Union often chooses a very prominent issue, a global and humane issue to propose the theme of the competition. Therefore, when participating in the competition, students not only practice their writing skills but also express their understanding and feelings about issues of contemporary significance, Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong emphasized.
The 54th UPU International Letter Writing Competition in 2025 has the theme: "IMAGINE YOU ARE THE OCEAN. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you". The theme of the contest is related to the goal of "Conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources" in the system of 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations.
Announcing the rules and technical instructions for writing a letter in accordance with the rules, journalist Do Thi Thanh Binh, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Young Pioneers and Children Newspaper, said: With this year's theme, students are transformed into the ocean to raise the issues they are facing, the most prominent of which is marine pollution. They can use their soaring imagination and unlimited creativity to talk, confide, remind people about the role of the ocean as well as share specific solutions and actions to protect the ocean, seas and marine ecosystems; demonstrating the responsibility of humans, especially the young generation, in preserving nature for sustainable development./.
