Gov’t to expand Internet coverage to rural areas

By 2020, Internet subscribers in rural areas will account for 30-40% of the national average density, according to a newly-approved project .

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng has recently approved a project on rural information and communication development for the 2011-2020 period.

The project, worth US $1.2 billion, aims to building public post offices in 100% of remote, far-reaching and extremely poor communes in Việt Nam.

It also provides all rural communes, especially those in mountainous regions, with People’s daily (Nhân Dân) newspapers and local Party papers.

In addition, the project plans to supply e-public services to rural areas, under which local residents can raise questions to the authorities and receive answers through e-mail./.
