Deputy Minister Phan Tam meets Qualcomm Vice President of Taiwan and Southeast Asia

On September 6, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam received Mr. St Liew, Qualcomm Vice President of Taiwan and Southeast Asia.

Qualcomm Vice President reported to the Deputy Minister on Qualcomm business and development activities in Vietnam and presented developing and cooperating orientation with Vietnamese enterprises in the coming time.

Accordingly, on June 28, 2019, Vinsmart announced a cooperation agreement with Qualcomm Corporation and Fujitsu Connect Technology Company to develop 5G smartphones. In addition, in the coming time, Qualcomm is expected to promote the development of 4G\5G mobile telecommunications technology and infrastructure as an essential platform for Industry 4.0 and Vietnam's digital economy; share innovation, technology and training programs for Vietnamese companies to promote the development of mobile and IoT devices in Vietnam; promote and contribute to national programs such as Industry 4.0, Smart City, Smart Agriculture,... and support Vietnamese technology businesses and startups in research and investment.
 
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Phan Tam said that: Vietnam is one of the first countries in the region to deploy 5G, not only that Vietnam also wants to develop the domestic industry of 5G. Currently, the Ministry of Information and Communications has licensed 5G testing for telecom businesses: Viettel, VNPT, Mobifone. Vietnam's goal is that by mid-2020, Vietnam will have 5G products and equipment with the participation of Vietnamese businesses. Therefore, the Ministry of Information and Communications welcomes Qualcomm to participate in cooperation, investment and business with Vietnamese enterprises in this field.
 
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister asked Qualcomm to coordinate with the Ministry of Information and Communications to develop a program to support Vietnamese technology enterprises and startups in research and development activities through training human resources.
