Deputy Minister Hoang Vinh Bao meets UNICEF Representative

On March 10, Deputy Minister Hoang Vinh Bao met Ms. Rana Flowers, UNICEF Representative in Viet Nam.

At the meeting, Ms. Rana Flowers said that for more than 40 years, UNICEF had supported and accompanied with the Government of Viet Nam in supporting activities related to women and children.

Regarding cooperation activities with the Ministry of Information and Communications, the UNICEF Representative in Viet Nam said that UNICEF Viet Nam and the Ministry of Information and Communications had implemented many activities, in particular supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in communication to prevent saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta, support the Ministry of Health to transmit the message of child protection, especially for children in the current Covid-19 epidemic...
 
The strength of UNICEF Viet Nam is to build and develop videos and messages to the people and children with diverse content to advertise on various media, especially social networks. Recently, UNICEF received a request from the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam to support the development of messages for children when they return to school after a break from the Covid-19 epidemic. UNICEF not only creates this message in Vietnamese but also in ethnic languages ​​and videos using sign language for deaf children to convey the message to children in remote areas and children with disabilities. 
 
Ms. Rana Flowers is also particularly interested in efforts to better protect children in cyberspace. UNICEF looks forward to cooperate with the Ministry of Information and Communications in making strict rules for Internet service providers and technology companies in protecting children on cyberspace; Issue guidelines to help parents help their children use the Internet safely, how to behave when their children are abused, bullied on cyberspace. At the same time, Ms. Rana Flowers also wants Vietnam to share its own experiences with other countries through the UNICEF Regional Conference.
 
At the same time, UNICEF Representative in Viet Nam said that UNICEF is ready to organize training courses to improve the capacity and knowledge for editors in writing stories related to children's rights.
 
Deputy Minister Hoang Vinh Bao said that the Government always cares and gives the best to children. Children's rights are always recognized and protected in the Vietnamese Constitution. Vietnam is the first Asian country and the second country in the world to approve the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
 
The Deputy Minister also highly appreciated and agreed with the proposals for cooperation between UNICEF Viet Nam and the Ministry of Information and Communications in the communication on the protection of children's rights, especially in the network environment, climate change, and natural disaster prevention, as communication on urgent response issues such as the covid-19 epidemic taking place worldwide.
 
Regarding the protection of children in the cyberspace, the Authority of Information Security is assigned to develop a project to protect and support children to interact healthily and creatively in cyberspace to submit to the Prime Minister for approval. The Deputy Minister expressed his wish that UNICEF would assist in providing information and coordinating to develop this project.
