It is the 11th consecutive year that the central coastal city has taken the lead in Vietnam ICT Index rankings, announced the 23rd Vietnam ICT Development Conference held in Phu Yen province on August 23.
The rankings have been developed by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) in collaboration with the Vietnam Association for Information Processing for the last 14 years.
There are 24 ministries and ministerial-level agencies and 63 provinces and cities nationwide assessed in the rankings, which have been built according to the United Nations index system based on three main components – technical infrastructure, human resources and IT application.
This year, Da Nang tops the list for the 11th consecutive year in the group for provinces and cities, with a total score of 0,8654, followed by the neighbouring province of Thua Thien - Hue (0.8046 points) and the northern province of Quang Ninh (0.7350 points).
More than 800 delegates from Government agencies, local authorities, specialised organisations and ICT enterprises joined the event, discussing digital transformation in various fields of national socio-economic development.
Managers and experts at the seminar agreed that the fourth Industrial Revolution, with digital transformation at its core, is bringing humanity into a new era of development - the digital age. Vietnam needs to seize the opportunity to accelerate its digital transition process to steadily advance with the common pace in the world, they said.
Minister of Information and Communications, Nguyen Manh Hung, said that digital conversion will be a challenge but it is also a great opportunity to create new developments for the country. According to the minister, the key to this process is technological and ICT enterprises.
Therefore, it is important to develop 100,000 ICT enterprises and train 1,000 digital transformation experts for ministries, sectors, localities and businesses, Hung suggested, urging for a focus on technology consultancy, transfer and application in all fields of the socio-economic and cultural aspects of the society.
The MIC will play an orientation role for technology enterprises, while advising the Government in solving difficulties and overcoming obstacles for technology enterprises. It will also assume the key role in digital transformation and ICT development in Vietnam, Hung said.
