In his opening speech, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalist Association (VJA) Thuan Huu said: Implementing the Action Program for the period 2015 - 2017 proposed by the Vietnam Journalist Association and being the President of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ), Vietnam Journalist Association held the training course on climate change for ASEAN journalists. This is the first training course of 3 activities related to the CAJ that Vietnam deploys this year (2 other activities include: Press Photo Contest "ASEAN – One community", and ASEAN journalists fieldwork in Vietnam to introduce, promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam).

The impact of climate changes is so serious, but the awareness of the community is limited and one-sided, only concerning about the negative impacts but not the transformation of lifestyles, patterns of production and consumption orienting low-carbon, green growth..., so the role of journalists is very important.
The course helps journalists enhance their skills in reporting on climate change as well as contribute to strengthening the solidarity and cooporation between ASEAN journalists.

During the course, the journalists will listen to presentations focused on: Global Climate Change - Challenges for Vietnam; Climate change risks; Report skills on environmental issues; The role of the press in environmental issues, etc. In addition, participants will also have the opportunity to discuss about the role of ASEAN press to climate change.
