151 works shortlisted for National Press Awards

The 15th National Press Awards have entered their final round with a shortlist of 151 journalistic works, from which the best will be chosen to be honoured at an awards ceremony scheduled for June 21.

The National Press Awards are the most prestigious awards for outstanding journalistic works.

Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) Thuan Huu said entries submitted to the organisers closely followed the major events of the country in 2020, from politics and the economy to culture, society and indeed from all aspects of life.

Works covering Party conventions at all levels towards the 13th National Congress, efforts to contain the Covid-19 pandemic and efforts to deal with natural disasters, especially flooding in the central region and drought in southern provinces, are of particular note.

The press were also directly engaged in the fight against corruption and wastefulness with in-depth and timely coverage, said Huu, who is head of the awards’ council.

VJA Vice Chairman Mai Duc Loc said after a preliminary round, the jury panel have selected 151 works across 11 categories for the final round from the 1,823 eligible entries.

He added that many works had significant impacts that the issues covered by them have been addressed by functional authorities and were praised by the public for their role in criticising the negative and promoting the new.

The National Press Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 21 to coincide with the 96th anniversary of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day.
