Released by the Writers' Association Publishing House, the series groups the literary works and diaries of 30 authors and soldiers from the armed forces who joined the national resistance war against the US.

The books also covered firsthand stories from the war zone by war correspondents from the end of 1960s to the beginning of 1970s.

Prominent among the pieces presented in the book were the two most popular diaries titled ‘Nhat Ky Dang Thuy Tram’ (Dang Thuy Tram's Diary), a female doctor who sacrificed her life for the nation’s independence, and martyr Nguyen Van Thac's Mai Mai Tuoi 20 (Forever Twenty).

From different perspectives, the authors recall daily moments during wartime as well as their love for life. Despite different cultural backgrounds, and periods of time, they all convey their meditations about the war and their hope for peace and reunion through every page of the series.

As the chief author of the collection, writer and war veteran Dang Vuong Hung spent 16 years compiling and editing the series from 2004 to 2020.

He said that the diaries provide readers with precise information and documents about war times, while opening up many interesting facts about spiritual life and culture in the past.

The publication of the series is a tribute to the heroic Vietnamese youth, who devoted their lives to the national revolutionary cause during the American War.
