PM Phuc said Mytel represents a symbol of co-operation, development, and mutual understanding between both countries, adding that despite being a newly-established joint venture, Mytel has already undergone rapid development and has risen to become the third largest network in the competitive Myanmar market.
This is evident in the figures with the venture currently enjoying over 7 million subscribers. One of Mytel’s significant landmarks came on August 5 when they became the first network to launch modern 5G technology in Myanmar, serving to create a wealth of opportunity for stronger co-operation and development in the era of Industry 4.0.
Phuc attributed Mytel’s success to the strong support given by Viettel's various technological development achievements, especially in the fields of research and the application of 5G technology. Moreover, Vietnam has played a key role in bringing advanced and modern technology to Myanmar for the purpose of investment, he noted.
He expressed his desire that Mytel will continue developing as a business whilst also serving as a cultural ambassador aimed at spreading the spirit of solidarity between both countries.
The PM voiced his hope that the venture will continue to expand in the Myanmar market, pointing out that aside from telecommunications field, Mytel needs to continue to study and develop mobile, financial, and e-government services in Myanmar in the coming time.
The cabinet leader underscored the importance of the venture’s co-operation and support for Vietnamese investors and businesses operating in Myanmar.
Following 18 months of business operation, Mytel has welcomed over 7 million customers, accounting for 22 per cent of the entire mobile telecommunications market share. These figures mean that the venture is ranked third in the Myanmar market and is one of the fastest growing telecommunications brands.
Moreover, Mytel has been actively participating in social programs aimed at improving the quality of life for local people, especially among students in Myanmar.
At present, the venture provides free internet for roughly 200 campuses and has trained hundreds of high-quality personnel in the field of information technology. Most notably, during the recent severe floods which hit Myanmar in August, Mytel actively supported the Myanmar government in efforts to rescue victims whilst also providing food and supplies at a total cost of approximately US$75,000 to nearly 49,000 people throughout the country.
Following his visit to the Mytel headquarters, PM Phuc visited the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) branch in Yangon which became the first and only foreign bank branch licensed to operate in Myanmar back in 2016.
