At the meeting, the two sides exchanged and shared information on the development of 5G technology in the world, the trend of integrating telecommunications equipment manufacturers, as well as long-term and short-term solutions involving 5G deployment
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung affirmed the importance of the "Make in Vietnam" strategy in the field of ICT that was announced by Vietnam in early 2019. Regarding the deployment of 5G in Vietnam, the Minister said that in 2020 the Ministry of Information and Communications would license 5G frequency and deployment. At the same time, the Minister asked Qualcomm to assist Vietnamese businesses in designing and manufacturing mobile and IoT devices.
Regarding human resources, Ministry of Information and Communications proposed Qualcomm to support some universities in Vietnam to deploy training programs on hardware and software design.
Mr. Alex Rogers affirmed that Qualcomm fully supported the Vietnamese Government's “Make in Vietnam” Strategy and wished to contribute to this Strategy through the support of Vietnamese technology enterprises, universities. Currently, Qualcomm has close cooperation with Vietnam’s telecom operators as well as ICT enterprises.
In Vietnam, Qualcomm is currently developing 4G / 5G mobile technology, IoT, chipset for smartphone and IoT design companies. It is noteworthy that in January 2020, Qualcomm will launch IoT Labs in Hanoi.
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung highly appreciated the effective cooperation between Qualcomm and the Vietnamese ICT business community and expressed his desire for Qualcomm to continue its long-term operation in Vietnam.
