Minister Nguyen Manh Hung meets Netflix

On August 26, 2019, in Hanoi, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung met Mr. Kuek Yu-Chuang, CEO of Netflix Asia Pacific.

 At the meeting, Mr. Kuek Yu-Chuang introduced briefly to the Minister about Netflix operations. Accordingly, the contents provided by Netflix are ​​mainly movies, dramas (mainly American films) and television programs (TV shows). The content streaming on Netflix is ​​purely entertaining, without advertising, without user-generated content.

Netflix really wants to invest in Vietnam market and is ​​committed to fully complying with Vietnamese laws, paying taxes in accordance with the law.
 
Netflix wants to sign a MoU with the Ministry of Information and Communications about buying Vietnamese films to play on Netflix platform, training human resources, and cooperating to export Vietnamese films to international markets. Netflix is ​​currently providing services in 190 countries around the world.
 
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized that Vietnam was a sovereign country, foreign businesses who come to Vietnam to do business must be complied with Vietnamese laws.
 
Regarding Vietnamese films broadcasting on Netflix, the Minister said that besides buying Vietnamese films, Netflix should cooperate with local film companies to produce films to meet needs of Vietnamese audiences in particular and Netflix subscribers in other markets in general.
