The ASEAN Workshop on 5G Spectrum

On August 16, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Information and Communications organized the ASEAN Workshop on 5G Spectrum to solve common problems of the spectrum planning for 5G. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Hong Hai attended and delivered the opening speech.

The Workshop was attended by representatives of ASEAN management agencies; experts from GSMA, Qualcomm, Huawei, NTT Docomo, Ericsson, Nokia, Axiata, etc.
 
The Workshop raised issues on 3.5GHz band, mmW band (26GHz or 28GHz frequency); spectrum harmony for 5G in ASEAN region; experiences in licensing frequencies for 5G networks; etc.
 
Speaking at the Workshop, Deputy Minister Pham Hong Hai said: Telecommunication infrastructure is not only a communication infrastructure, but also a infrastructure of digital economy, digital society, and IoT and the infrastructure of the 4th industrial revolution. 5G has a special role in connecting telecommunications infrastructure and is an indispensable element in realizing the goal of building Digital ASEAN.
 
In Vietnam, in order to take advantage of the early deployment of 5G, the Ministry of Information and Communications has planned to carry out 5G pilot in 2019, spectrum planning in 2019-2020 and commercial licenses by 2020.
 
Vietnam has granted licenses to 03 mobile operators to conduct 5G pilot in main cities of Vietnam such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. On May 10, Viettel made the first 5G connection and call in Vietnam.
 
The Ministry of Information and Communications organized the ASEAN Workshop on 5G Spectrum to share and exchange ideas and experiences with ASEAN members, as well as with other partners to timely expand 5G in all ASEAN member countries.
