Acting Minister Nguyen Manh Hung meets Minister for Foreign Affairs of Tanzania

On October 11, Acting Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung met and worked with Mr. Augustine Mahiga, Minister for Foreign Affairs, East Africa, Regional and International Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania.

At the meeting, Acting Minister Nguyen Manh Hung shared, at present, Viet Nam had many operators, including Viettel, investing in Tanzania since 2015 mainly in the field of telecommunications. Viettel is a state-owned operator and could be considered as an investment of the Vietnamese government in Tanzania. Apart from its telecommunication business, it has taken on many social responsibilities for Tanzania.

Vietnam is a developed country in telecommunications, so can help Tanzania to develop strategies, legal systems, and solutions in these areas. The Acting Minister also stressed that Vietnam considered ICT as a priority area to help the country develop speedily. At the same time, it is determined that the transition to digital economy will be a major goal of the Government of Vietnam.
 
He also hoped that the Government of Tanzania would create favourable conditions for foreign investors, especially for Vietnamese businesses to invest there, at the same time, Tanzania would become a strategic friend of Vietnam in Africa.
 
Minister Augustine Mahiga expressed his impression to Vietnam’s achievements in many socio-economy areas. According to data analysis, the telecom sector contributes to one third of Tanzania's gross domestic product, of which Viettel and Halotel contribute greatly. He hopes that Tanzania and Vietnam will continue to promote IT cooperation and this visit to Vietnam will open new doors for bilateral relations between the two countries.
