Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and Ministry of Electronics and Technology of India set up a joint working group

On March 28th, the Ministry of Information and Communications delegation led by Minister Truong Minh Tuan had a working session with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India.


Speaking at the meeting, Minister Truong Minh Tuan informed about the development of information technology in Vietnam, the results of cooperation between the two countries in the field of information technology.
Accordingly, the IT sector has become an important economic sector with high annual growth rate compared to other fields of Vietnam. IT industry revenue reached nearly $ 40 billion, contributing 25% of Vietnam's GDP. With investment incentives, Vietnam is a dynamic market and an attractive destination for large corporations in the world such as Samsung, Intel and Microsoft.
Currently, Vietnam has about 52 million Facebook users, in which about 21 million users daily access social networks through mobile devices. Vietnam is the second largest Facebook user country in Southeast Asia.
Vietnam’s Government identifies IT as the key to create a new development paradigm, an important driving force for the development and modernization of the country, comprehensively enhancing national competitiveness and international integration. In the ICT Development Strategy to 2020, the Government of Vietnam has set some important goals building Vietnam into a strong country in ICT.
Minister Truong Minh Tuan highly appreciated the Government of India in providing USD 1 billion credit to support digital connectivity projects for ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, and hoped to work closely with the Ministry of Electronics and Technology of India to concretize feasible projects: sharing experiences on information security; sharing experience and technology solutions in ensuring information security; sharing experiences in policy development and e-government projects; opening training courses for Vietnamese staff on state management of ICT, etc.
Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ravi Shanka Prasad highly appreciated Minister Truong Minh Tuan's proposal for cooperation and support in building e-government, smart cities. Minister Shri Ravi Shanka Prasad also proposed that Vietnam coordinate to establish joint working groups to implement agreed contents.
At the end of the working session, the two Ministers witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the establishment of a joint working group to implement cooperation agreements between the two ministries.
