Vietnam ICT Summit 2015 with the theme "ICT and Smart Management"

On June, 25th, 2015, in Hanoi, Vietnam ICT Summit 2015 was opened with the theme "ICT and Smart Management". Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam attended and delivered the opening speech. Attending the Summit were Information and Communications Minister Nguyen Bac Son, Information and Communications Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung, former Japan’s Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, and 400 delegates being specialists, senior leaders of related ministries, sectors, domestic and foreign units.

 In the opening speech, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said, according to the statistics, Vietnam ICT developed 16% in the past year. Vietnam ranked in the top 5 countries of fastest growing ICT in the world. In the field of IT outsourcing, Vietnam was at the top - not to mention a wide range of young individuals, entrepreneurs, new startups having products gained both Vietnam and the world’s recognition. 

One of the announced figures that impressed the IT community was E-government Rankings of the United Nations, in which Vietnam dropped 19 grades to the 99th place. Besides the explanations related to our statistical criteria’s changes and Vietnam’s subscriber management (from 200 million to around 130 million subscribers), Deputy Prime Minister said that we could not be satisfied. To IT service providers,  Deputy Prime Minister required the IT enterprises had to change their thinkings, to be more active in providing, marketing their services and products. 

Minister Nguyen Bac Son informed, the development of IT had achieved some remarkable results. The IT industry maintained its position as the main economic and technical sector with high growth rates. IT applications in agencies, organizations and businesses were increasingly promoted, and made clear impacts on all aspects of the society and economy of the country. IT workforces had grown rapidly both in quantity and quality. The IT and telecommunications infrastructure’s development increasingly made fast, timely, safe, and secured connections between government agencies and enterprises as well as the society. The information security’s awareness had been improved, made an important contribution to protecting the information resource and national digital sovereignty. The number of Internet broadband subscribers reached about 12 million. 

Simultaneously, Minister confirmed, to meet the needs of economic and social development as well as improving the competitiveness of the country, in recent years, the Party and the State had identified the promotion of IT applications and development in Vietnam. ICT had been identified as a priority sector of the economy - a key technical infrastructure in the development of the society. 

At the Summit, some Forums were took place with following topics: Session 1: ICT enhances Health sector’s capacity; Session 2: ICT human resource development; Session 3: ICT enhances the capacity and efficiency of State management and Quality of public services; Session 4: ICT develops the intelligent transportation and urban construction. 

Being held annually since 2011, Vietnam ICT Summit had become the most important forum for ICT policy, technology and cooperation in Vietnam, an important contribution to the construction of the Party and State’s policies, mechanisms and policies to promote IT applications to create new methods, to improve the competitiveness and modernization of the country in all sectors.
