Special Issuance Ceremony of Stamp Set “Viet Nam in the ASEAN Community ”

In the activity framework of 17 th ASEAN Summit, Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) co-operated with Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize the special issuance ceremony of stamp set “Viet Nam in the ASEAN Community” on 27 October, 2010. Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem, ASEAN General Secretary Surin Pitsuwan, nine (09) Ministers of ASEAN countries, and Deputy Minister of MIC Nguyen Thanh Hung as well as reporters from news agencies of ASEAN countries and Viet Nam.

The year 2010 has been marked by many big events of Viet Nam such as 65 years of Independence Day and 1000 years of Ha Noi, it is also the year that Viet Nam is undertaking the position “the President of ASEAN”. In order to strengthen foreign propaganda works about Viet Nam and the ASEAN presidency year of Viet Nam 2010, MIC decided to issue the stamp set “ Viet Nam in the ASEAN Community” which includes one sample. To achieve stamp sample which is profound in content and unique in form, Viet Nam Posts Corporation organized a stamp design contest for artists working in the field of post and in other fields. The stamp sample designed by Nguyen Du from Vietnam Stamp Company has won a first prize due to its excellent philosophy and design. The stamp features ASEAN countries’ national flags, which are formalized into the form of flying dragon, showing the unity, role and position of ASEAN in the region and the world. The special issuance ceremony of stamp set, which has been organized on 27 October, 2010 also the time of organizing 27th ASEAN Summit and related high- level Meetings in Hanoi, will be a meaningful award to welcome this event.

“This special issuance ceremony will contribute to the success of 17th ASEAN Summit held in Viet Nam holding the position of ASEAN Chair. The stamp set “Viet Nam in the ASEAN Community” is the one showing adequately the prosperous development of ASEAN community”, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung said.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hung and ASEAN General Secretary Surin Pitsuwan co- signed to issue the stamp set under witness of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem and nine (09) Ministers of ASEAN countries. Deputy PM Khiem has also rewarded the artists who won in the stamp sample design contest.
