EVN launches 3G network

Vietnam ese telecom operator EVN has launched its 3G network on 9, June 2010 in Hanoi. This is ground mobile telecommunication network with standard IMT- 2000 in frequency band 1900- 2200 MHZ.

Attending the ceremony were Permanent Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Le Nam Thang, Chairman of EVN Mr. Dao Van Hung, EVN Director Mr. Pham Duong Minh, EVN Board of Directors and representatives from units under Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Public Security , Ministry of Trade and Commerce etc.

EVN was awarded its 3G licience by MIC in 2009. EVN has developed nearly 2500 3G- base transceiver statations (BTS), covering 46% of the country’s population. EVN’s 3G network has come into operation in accordance with commitments to MIC. The EVN deputy director Vo Quang Lam said that under the first phase of the rollout plan, EVN will focus on the populated cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Can Tho. Under the second phase, the company plans to install more than 5,000 3G- BTS. EVN also plans to increase the figure to 7,500 Node B one year after launching 3G service.

The Permanent Deputy Minister Le Nam Thang highly appreciated efforts and successes gained by EVN. He said that Vietnam telecom companies, including   EVN, contributed to development of country’s telecommunication in past years.Three (01) Vietnamese companies and one (01) joint venture company were awarded their 3G lincences by MIC. Telecom companies complied with commitments by MIC for sustainable development of Vietnam telecommunication.
