The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) will develop and submit a strategic plan on cyber information security to the government, according to Minister Truong Minh Tuan.

The minister said that the strategic plan is aimed at protecting, warning, co-coordinating or rescuing incidents related to cyber safety and security.

This plan was announced during a seminar on August 15, on cyber security organised by MIC and Israel's Verint Systems Limited Company (a global leader in Actionable Intelligence solutions) and local companies including VNCERT, VNPT, Mobifone and VTC.

Minister Tuan said that his ministry would consider working with Verint Systems and other well-known cyber security companies to offer training to students of the information security department from the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology.

Viet Nam wanted cyber security companies to co-operate and share information security as well as warnings of risks of cyber security, Minister Tuan added.

Representatives of Verint System said that Viet Nam needed to formulate a national cyber security strategy and tools to prevent and detect risks, and cyber-attacks.

Verint System's representatives described the recent attack on Vietnam Airlines as an "extremely serious attack" and warned that domestic IT engineers must know how hackers strike, and what the reasons are for such attacks, and the hacking levels. By doing so, domestic IT engineers can issue warnings and prevent future cyber-attacks.

The representatives also highlighted the importance of ensuring the smooth operation of national key networks in transport, banking, aviation, and ministries. Therefore, Verint System has offered a solution to build a Center for National Defense. This "backbone" center can collect a huge volume of terabytes for data, analysis and information so as to classify or identify data traffic and detect sudden surge in data traffic or risks.
