Star Telecom - an symbol of Vietnam - Laos cooperation

Contributing to the state budget of Laos 485 million USD, with the revenue of 1.35 billion USD and accounting for 54% of the telecommunications market, are outstanding achievements of Star Telecom (Unitel), a joint venture between Viettel Global and Lao Asia Telecom.

After 10 years of operation, Star Telecom has become the market leader in Laos with 3 million customers, 54% market share. Currently, Unitel has 6,500 broadcasting stations, 30,000 km of optical cable, covering 100% of the districts in Laos, contributing to bring the telecommunication network to remote areas, so that people can access telecommunication services, shorten the gap between rural and urban areas, creating a driving force for Lao socio-economic development. By the end of 2017, Unitel has contributed over $ 485 million USD to the state budget and $ 13 million USD to the social budget.

In the past 10 years, Unitel has implemented Internet funding programs for more than 900 schools, contributing to popularize the Internet and bringing knowledge to students. Unitel is also a TV station linking three PM's offices in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, ready for high-level meetings between the Prime Ministers of the three countries; supports the Laos government to build a Lao font on computers and mobile phones.
 
With outstanding achievements and contributions to the socio-economic development of Laos, Unitel was granted the Lao Government's Second Labor Medal.
 
One of Unitel's core goals is to bring the high-speed Internet to 80% Lao people across the country by the year 2020 to increase their knowledge and connectivity with the world.
 
Unitel is committed to maintaining its leading role, representing the close ties between the two countries, contributing to the tradition of friendship and solidarity, as well as comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, the two States and the two Peoples.
