Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Truong Minh Tuan said that the world was witnessing the remarkable development of ICT and the strong popularity of IoT in all aspects of life, especially the 4.0 technology revolution. Telecommunications - IT has a very important mission, playing a key role in the infrastructure for the development of the 4.0 revolution. Coming up with this trend, network operators, along with developing the information security infrastructure, are pushing for new applications such as cloud computing, IoT, smart cities, Bigdata, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, etc.
Vietnamese operators had to immediately grasp 5G so that Vietnam could become one of top 5G countries in the near future, the minister emphasized.
Minister Truong Minh Tuan hoped that participants of the workshop would be provided with more information on 5G. This is also an opportunity for the MIC’s functional units to learn and develop policies to promote 5G in the future.
At present, 5G is in the process of formulating and finalizing standards for commercialization by 2020. And commercial pilot projects for 5G will be made at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Seoul (Korea) and Summer Olympics in Japan.
Although 4G has just started in Vietnam, 4G itself has brought in the 5G's premise, such as the ability to support IoT with high connection density, low latency and high reliability.
Ericsson predicts that by 2022, 5G technology will grow rapidly and have about 500 million subscribers. With that in mind, 5G offers tremendous business opportunities for businesses. Accordingly, the telecom operator will be adding 34% revenue growth by 2026. Also in 2026, there will be a $ 582 billion global market when telecom service providers use 5G to digitize the industry. 5G also allows the deployment of advanced services, from better quality access to nationwide medical services, smart transportation systems, including self-driving cars, along with new innovations in many areas such as financial services, energy, social security.
