Vietnam attends the 12th Asia-Pacific Union Congress

From July 3-7, 2017, the 12th Asia-Pacific Postal Union Congress (APPU 12) was held in Tehran, Iran. Under the authorization of the Prime Minister, the Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong, attended the Congress as APPU's official member.

At the APPU12 Congress, member countries discussed the innovation and performance of APPU, the trends and policies for the development of postal services, opportunities and challenges in business and development of e-commerce. Within the framework of the Congress, a number of technical and operational issues have been discussed by APPU Working Groups to strengthen coordination in the region and develop common regional recommendations and proposals for cooperation issues within the framework of the UPU.
 
During the Congress, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong had a bilateral meeting with Iran's Deputy Minister of Information Technology and Communications, President and Chief Executive of Iran Post. At the meeting, the two sides discussed the contents of the MoU, signed in October 2016, on Information Technology and Communication between the two countries.
 
After a meeting, VNPOST together with Iran Post and Iran Post Bank signed the MoU on sharing experience and technology, promoting exchanges of postal parcels and stamps, and coordinating the international money transfer services between the two countries through UPU's IFS system.
 
On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong had meetings with UPU Director General Bishar Hussein, APPU’s Secretary General Lin Hong Liang. Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong talked with leaders of international organizations on Vietnam's participation in cooperative programs and projects as well as the renovation and improvement of the organizations. The leaders of international organizations highly valued Vietnam's active contribution and participation.
