Under the MoU, Viettel supports the city in the process of building a master plan for smart urban development in Da Nang and provides technical support for one of the priority areas including transportation, healthcare, education and training, food safety and hygiene, environment, water quality monitoring, and energy.

In the first phase, the two agreed to focus on the two areas of healthcare and education and training to build an intelligent Da Nang in a comprehensive manner on the basis of integrating the results achieved to improve the quality of life for locals.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee Dang Viet Dung said that the agreement was of significance to develop Da Nang as a smarter city, and marked a new effort and determination of the two sides in successfully building the first smart city model in the country.

The MoU aims to update, supplement and implement a number of items in the scheme to build smart city in Da Nang approved by the municipal People's Committee under Decision No. 1797 dated March 25, 2014.

Along with investment in the care for welfare issues and infrastructure development, Da Nang has promoted the application and development of IT and e-government construction. Its electronic governmental system at egov.danang.gov.vn has been praised by the local community and enterprises and organisations operating in the field of IT. In 2015, the system won the first prize at the ASEAN ICT Awards for IT application in the public sector.

The city has continued to actively work with local and international partners to identify and implement co-operation programmes related to building a smart city, as well as attending national conferences on the issue to exchange experience and seek solutions to build in the right direction.

After the signing ceremony, Viettel in collaboration with relevant Da Nang units, conducted a survey on the selected fields to map out solutions and adequate funding worth VND10 billion for the implementation of the first phase under the MoU.
