Viettel to expand overseas

Viettel is planning to expand to overseas markets such as Peru, East Timor, Tanzania, Cameroon, Burundi, etc with total of 70 million subscribers, according to state-owned carrier’s latest market expansion strategy.

Viettel’s handset export to foreign markets accounted for 90% for the year 2013, said Luu Quang Truong, Head of Research and Development Division, Viettel Group. Handset manufacturing has been considered one of 4 development focuses by Viettel. However, local mobile handset market has saturated, achieving mobile penetration to 120%.

Viettel’s handset manufacturing has enjoyed a lot of competitive advantage compared with other rivals. Laos, Cambodia, Mozambique, Haiiti which are invested by Viettel are the potential markets for Viettel’s mobile phones. In these markets, mobile penetration is only 60%. Furthermore,Viettel has established an extensive distribution network through agents, shops, outlets in every districts and communes, added Truong.
