Minister Le Doan Hop receives ITU Screatary- General

Secretary- General of the International Telecommunication Union Hamadoun Toure’ visited and worked with the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) in Ha Noi on July 19. Minister of Information and Communications Le Doan Hop had a meeting with ITU Secretary- General Hamadoun Toure’.

At the meeting, Minister Le Doan Hop introduced to Mr Hamadoun Toure’ Viet Nam’s telecommunication achievements and shared difficulties in IT industry.

ITU Secretary- General Hamadoun Toure’ was expressed with Viet Nam’s telecom growth, especially the rapid broadband development.

The broadband growth in Viet Nam has increased from 1% in 2008 to 13% in 2011. This development is consistent with ITU’s plan including focusing on mobile development in the 1st decade of the 21st century and broadband development in the 2nd decade.

With Viet Nam’s difficulties in telecommunication, Mr Hamadoun Toure’ said that it’s common difficulty of many countries. ITU is building policies, encouraging and boosting fair competition, he added.

ITU plans to organize forums on managing and designing digit first, network connection, information safety and infrastructure sharing.

ITU Secretary- General Hamadoun Toure’ requested MIC’s support for VNPT to join ITU. Minister Le Doan Hop said that MIC would create favorable conditions for VNPT and Viettel to join ITU.

Mr Hamadoun Toure’ highly appreciated the project to convert Viet Nam into an advanced ICT nation and believed that Viet Nam would implement this project successfully. He also committed that ITU would support Viet Nam and share information, experiences in order to avoid mistakes in development.

Mr Hamadoun Toure’said that this is his 1st visit to Vietnam as the ITU Secretary- General.
